About Anna

I Inspire Adventures in Wild Places!

I’m Anna, founder of Wild Hearted Adventures. I’m mum to three young girls – eight-year-old twins and a truly Wild Hearted five-year-old. I’m a travel writer, editor of the successful family travel blog Twins and Travels, and in a former life, deputy head of a primary school.

When I was just five years old I saw dolphins in the wild for the first time, and at nine, we took a tiny plane and flew over the Grand Canyon – even at that young age it took my breath away.  Travel opened my world in a way nothing had before and even now, I still travel through the eyes of that 5 year old girl.

Wild Hearted Adventures is my chance to bring those kinds of life-altering moments to others. Connecting people with the tools they need to set out on Wild Hearted Adventures of their own.

All my adventures are planned with sustainability, conservation & community at their centre. It’s my mission to inspire the next generation to build a future where people and nature thrive together. I’d love to meet you along the way.

How I Got Started

I started visiting Africa over 20 years ago before my career had even begun. From the moment I set foot in Kenya, I fell in love. Africa, quite simply, stole my heart. Since then, I have visited Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa, falling in love all over again each time. I knew then that travel would be part of my future but had no idea how blessed I would be to eventually make it my profession too.

Throughout my teaching career, I led and organised school residential trips which gave hundreds of children the opportunity to go to places and see things they wouldn’t have otherwise seen.

These trips opened my eyes to the limitless potential that the outdoors offers to young children. It became a new kind of classroom, somewhere they could be inspired and deep dive into the world of imagination. It was a place where they could design, create and be truly themselves.

I wanted that for my children too and since having a family, my love for travel has only continued to grow. My two worlds collided and I found myself yearning to help my children make footprints of their own. Our family adventures have led us to Kenya, Lapland, the US, Bahamas, Mexico, Jamacia, Barbados, Cayman Islands, St Lucia, France, Spain, Portugal, Canary Islands, Holland, Germany, Sweden, the list goes on.

“I haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on my list” – Susan Sontag

It was a steep learning curve to begin to travel with children. Perhaps surprisingly, it was an even steeper one to find the courage to be away from them and go in search of myself on solo trips.

Wild Hearted Adventures was born when I wanted to share both these experiences with others. I wanted to give people the opportunity to travel beyond their dreams and to educate the next generation of children and adventure women through wildlife conservation. Wild Hearted Adventures is, I suppose, my way of sharing a little piece of my wild with you.

Why support conservation through travel?

In an effort to protect our precious planet, many of our trips have a conservation focus – our aim is to promote wildlife conservation through truly unique, immersive adventures. We want people to make the memories of a lifetime and come away with a love of the wild and a deep passion for the environment.

Our experiences hope to spark conversations about conservation, and a first-hand awareness of the challenges the world’s wildlife faces. It’s our belief that as we learn more about conservation, we foster a deeper understanding of the value of caring for our planet and the great diversity of life upon it.

Our mission is conservation through exploration: protecting our planet by inspiring travellers, supporting local communities and influencing others to do the same. Together we can inspire the next generation to build a future where people and nature thrive together!

Keep up to date with our wild adventures
