Day 1 - Arrival in Sandakan – Explore the Wonders of Sepilok

Touch down at Sandakan Airport (SDK), where your journey into the heart of Borneo begins!

Please make sure you have landed by 10am – arrival after this time may incur an additional transfer fee.

Upon arrival, our driver will be waiting and together we will enjoy a seamless transfer to Sepilok, where the lush rainforest and serene surroundings await!

Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 4 PM today

If you arrive earlier, take the opportunity to explore the beautiful surroundings of Sepilok

After the meeting, embark on an unforgettable adventure with your expert guide to the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC). Wander through guided nature trails, marvel at the rich biodiversity, and soak in the beauty of the towering trees and vibrant wildlife. This is your opportunity to connect with nature in one of the world’s most extraordinary ecosystems.

After your tour, return to your hotel to relax, unwind and enjoy a welcome dinner together. Spend the night enveloped by the tranquillity of the rainforest, preparing for more adventures to come.

Day 2 - Discover Sepilok and Journey to Bilit, Kinabatangan

Start your day at the Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary, where rescued orangutans swing through the trees for their morning feast. This sanctuary provides a safe haven for endangered orangutans, offering them comfort and protection.

Upon arrival, your guide will provide a brief orientation before leading you along a scenic boardwalk through the lowland rainforest, where you’ll have the chance to spot these magnificent primates in their natural habitat.

After capturing memories and photographs of these remarkable creatures, you’ll depart the centre and settle in for the next leg of our journey.

Then, meet the world’s smallest bears at the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Center and learn how they’re finding their way back to the wild.

Later we continue our journey to the Kinabatangan River and arrive at your jungle lodge, nestled beside the river, providing the perfect setting to soak in the lush surroundings.

The Kinabatangan River is a protected forest reserve, renowned for its incredible concentrations of wildlife. set out on a scenic river cruise, gliding through the tranquil waters as you search for the region’s exotic wildlife. While sightings of wild pygmy elephants are rare, you may spot crocodiles, macaques, wild orangutans, proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and kingfishers.

After check-in and lunch, enjoy an afternoon river safari in search of Pygmy elephants and more wildlife. You’ll also take in stunning river scenery, village landscapes, and, if the weather permits, witness the enchanting sight of firefly colonies lighting up the riverbanks as the sun sets.

After dinner, explore the jungle on an exhilarating guided night walk, searching for nocturnal species unique to the area, before unwinding in your cozy, air-conditioned chalet for a restful overnight stay!

Day 3 - Early Wildlife Exploration and River Adventures

Awaken to the calls of a Bornean gibbon or perhaps the distant cry of a hornbill, setting the perfect tone for a morning river cruise.

Start your day with a peaceful wildlife cruise, this is another opportunity to encounter the rich wildlife and birdlife of the Kinabatangan region. Keep a keen eye out for proboscis monkeys, Bornean gibbons, long-tailed macaques, and pig-tailed macaques, and challenge yourself to distinguish the unique features of each species.

As you cruise through the serene waters, enjoy a light breakfast packed with local flavours, all while taking in the stunning natural surroundings.

In the afternoon, seize your last opportunity to capture stunning wildlife shots by setting off on another river safari, gliding through mangroves in search of Pygmy elephants, vibrant birdlife, and stunning river landscapes. From the elusive silver leaf monkeys and even orangutans and crocodiles, you’ll have the chance to witness some of Borneo’s most iconic species in their beautiful natural habitat.

As dusk falls, hopefully catch sight of fireflies twinkling along the riverbanks before returning for dinner.

Conclude the day with a peaceful night’s rest in your charming lodge, nestled deep in the heart of the rainforest.

Day 4 - A Day of River Cruises and Jungle Adventures

This morning, go for a meaningful visit to the RESPonsible Elephant Conservation Trust (RESPECT), where you’ll gain insight into their vital efforts to protect Borneo’s pygmy elephants and where they are making efforts to “secure a future where elephants roam freely and thrive in their natural habitats.”

Contribute to their conservation work by planting nutritious grass to support these gentle giants.

Again, keep your eyes peeled for Borneo’s huge variety of wildlife, including bird species and primate species as they begin their day in the jungle.

Later, enjoy a leisurely afternoon, or, if you’re eager for more adventure, opt to rejoin the evening river cruise for one last chance to capture breathtaking photos of the region’s diverse wildlife.

As night falls, retreat to your charming jungle lodge, nestled deep in the heart of the rainforest, for a final night surrounded by nature.

Day 5 - Final River Cruise and Journey to Poring Hotspring

After checking out, we will drive to Sabah Tea Garden stopping at Gomantong Cave – the largest limestone cavern in the Lower Kinabatangan region. This extraordinary cave harbors a bustling ecosystem of bats and swiftlets, offering a fascinating insight into its rich biodiversity. (some photography restrictions for professional cameras apply within the cave) and then take a scenic boat ride back to Sandakan before embarking on an overland journey to Poring Hot Spring.

The approximately six-hour drive offers glimpses of Sabah’s lush landscapes, winding through villages and rainforests.

As an en route stop, we’ll spend a night at the beautiful Sabah Tea Garden, staying in one of their cozy cottages nestled among rolling tea fields.

Upon arrival, unwind in the rejuvenating natural hot springs, known for their therapeutic properties, and soak in the beauty of the surrounding jungle.

We’ll then come together around a warm campfire – a perfect moment to unwind, share stories, get to know one another, and reflect on the day’s journey.

Day 6 - Poring Hotspring – Kundasan

After breakfast, we’ll head to Poring Hot Springs, where we’ll take on the Canopy Walk, enjoying breathtaking views high above the treetops.

Once checked out, our journey continues to the historic Kundasang War Memorial, where we’ll reflect on the past amidst beautifully landscaped gardens.

Next, we’ll dive into the vibrant open market, filled with fresh local fruits and vegetables – perfect for a taste of Kundasang’s flavours!

As the day winds down, we’ll check into our hotel and relax, surrounded by the refreshing mountain air.

Day 7 - Journey to Kinabalu National Park and Kota Kinabalu

Have a good breakfast this morning, before we proceed to Kinabalu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site teeming with biodiversity.

Wander through the lush greenery of the Mountain Garden, home to rare orchids and exotic pitcher plants, and gain fascinating insights at the Kinabalu Geopark Gallery.

Breathe in the crisp mountain air as you continue your journey to the charming village of Kiau. Here, you’ll have the chance to experience a slice of local life by visiting a coffee production house to learn about bean cultivation, then stop by Everything Pineapple, a women-led social enterprise born after the 2015 Sabah earthquake. Sample homemade pineapple treats and enjoy a community-hosted lunch.

Wrap up the day with a scenic drive to Kota Kinabalu, perhaps making a quick stop at Nabalu Market for a local snack or handmade keepsake. Later in the evening, perhaps head out with our leader for dinner.

Day 8 - Monsopiad Cooking Class and Heritage Village Tour

Today we will experience a cooking class with a local chef – guests are welcomed with traditional gongs and kulintangan.

The cooking experience begins with a warm welcome and safety briefing by a local chef, followed by an introduction to the dishes. Participants learn to wrap Hinopot using doingin leaves, then move on to cooking Pinasakan Sada, a traditional fish dish prepared with fresh sada, turmeric, and takob-akob.

Next, they make Hinava, a Sabahan raw fish salad, focusing on fresh ingredients and citrus curing. The session ends with a recap, certificate presentation, and a group photo.

The cultural experience continues with a traditional dance and music showcase at the Cultural Hall, where guests can witness the elegance of the Sumazau dance.

Lunch at Riverside Café offers a taste of authentic local flavours. A guided tour of Monsopiad Heritage Village provides insight into Kadazan-Dusun history and customs.

Before concluding the tour, guests have the opportunity for souvenir shopping to bring home a piece of Monsopiad.

Day 9 - Snorkelling at Tuanku Abdul Rahman Marine Park

Today, indulge in a day of sun, sea, and sand as you walk to Jesselton Point Jetty, and embark on a snorkelling trip to the stunning Tuanku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, just off the coast of Kota Kinabalu. The Marine Park is a tropical paradise renowned for its vibrant coral reefs and marine life.

Upon arrival, a full briefing will prepare you for your first guided snorkeling session. With your snorkel gear ready, plunge into the crystal-clear waters alongside a professional RAID Instructor or Snorkel Guide.

Two guided snorkeling sessions at different coral reef sites await, each offering an hour of exploration. Depending on the conditions, your guide may opt for an extended single snorkeling tour at a prime location to maximize your experience.

Following the morning’s underwater adventure, enjoy a relaxing break on one of the park’s idyllic islands, where a delicious lunch awaits.

Take in the serene surroundings before deciding how to spend the afternoon – either by joining another guided snorkeling tour at a different site or unwinding on the sandy beach.

As the day winds down, the boat will take you back to Jesselton Point Jetty, where you can reflect on the unforgettable marine encounters and stunning scenery of the day.

Day 10 - Transfer to Kota Kinabalu for 2-day Beach Stay

Feel the soft sand beneath your feet, hear the gentle lapping of the waves, and let the sun kiss your skin. It’s time to release the world, to breathe deeply, and to let the wonders of your week resonate in the serenity of this coastal paradise.

Day 11 - Relax and Unwind at the Beach

Today, enjoy a day at your leisure.

Day 12 - Farewell to an Incredible Adventure

Today marks the end of an unforgettable journey. From the vibrant wildlife of Borneo to the peaceful beaches of Karambunai, this Wild Hearted Adventure will have truly been one for the books.

After breakfast, you will be picked up and transferred to the airport 2 hours prior to your departure.
